Method 1: Transfer Files from Android to PC via Bluetooth

Before, we used to transfer files between our phones via Bluetooth. Today, you can do it between an Android phone and a PC. However, it’s still a bit slower compared to other transfer methods, but if you’re only transferring small document files or a few pictures, BT can do it. Just make sure that the PC has a Bluetooth feature that some don’t have out of the box.

Step 1

On your Windows PC, press Windows key and “I” and it should open the Settings. There, go to Devices and then Bluetooth. Toggle it on afterward.

Step 2

Proceed to your Android phone and go to Settings > Connections. There, turn on Bluetooth to make the phone discoverable to nearby devices. Then, go back to your PC and click Add Bluetooth or other devices.

Step 3

The PC should detect your Android phone. Click on it to start the pairing. On your phone, accept the pairing request to establish the connection. There will be a prompt on your Windows PC, too. Just click Yes.

Step 4

After that, select the files/photos on your phone’s File Manager/Gallery and tap on the Share button. Then, choose Bluetooth and tap on your PC’s name to start sending the files.

Aside from slower transfer, another issue of Bluetooth connection between Android and PC is pairing. Sometimes, the pairing is unstable and tends to disconnect.

Method 2: Transfer Files from Android to PC via MicroSD Card

Another way to transfer your files from Android to PC is via a microSD card. This can work if your phone has a microSD card slot and the files you need to transfer have been transferred there. Moreover, you may need a microSD card reader if your PC doesn’t have a dedicated slot for it.

Step 1

Remove your microSD card from your Android phone. Then, insert it into your SD card reader. If the computer has a dedicated slot, directly put your microSD card into it. Right after that, the system should detect the storage device.

Windows MicroSD

Step 2

On your PC, open File Explorer and select the microSD right below This PC. Then, select the folder/files you need to transfer and right-click. Choose Copy/Cut and Paste them to a folder of your choice in your PC’s storage.

After that, just wait until the progress bar is complete before you eject the microSD card. The speed of the transfer relies on the read/write speed of your microSD card. Low-quality or old microSDs are slower.

Tip:

If you have a USB OTG adapter, you may also use a flash drive to transfer photos and files from Android to PC.

Method 3: Transfer Files from Android to PC via USB Data Cable

Well, if the files are stored in your Android phone’s internal storage, you need to connect it to a PC using a USB data cable. This is particularly the scenario for newer Android phones today that no longer support microSD. For this method to work, make sure that the cable is compatible with the phone’s USB port (Type C or MicroUSB).

Step 1

Connect the USB data cable to your Android phone and then attach the other end to the PC. The computer should recognize the device right away. You may need to enable USB File Transfer on your Android phone to fully allow the transfer.

Step 2

Launch File Explorer on your PC and then click on your Android phone under This PC. There,  copy the files and go to the folder of your choice. Then, right-click and Paste.
