How to Fix A Disabled/Unavailable iPad without iTunes

Last Updated: May 10th, 2023By Categories: Unlock Apple Device

When an iPad is disabled or unavailable, the first solution that pops into our brain is always iTunes, the official Apple device assistant. However, due to the “Trust This Computer” restriction, we can’t just connect the locked iPad to iTunes. Also, if you’re not around a computer, iTunes is a total waste.

To get the unavailable iPad function again, we have to fix it without the help of iTunes or a computer. Read on for 4 practical methods.

How to Unlock A Disabled iPad Without iTunes or Computer

Method 1 to Unlock A Disabled iPad without iTunes & Computer: Find My

To begin with, the first method we use to unlock your disabled iPad is the Find My app.

Do you have an iPhone or another iPad? If you do, this method is of great help and you can continue the reading. Otherwise, skip this and check other methods.

On your iPhone or iPad, you can find this Find My app. Within this app, you can keep track of all your Apple devices registered to the same Apple account. Other than tracking their locations, you can also do remote controls like:

  • Turn on Lost mode;
  • Make the device to be sound;
  • Erase this device.

Here, we will use the remote erase feature to help us unlock the disabled iPad. Find My will erase all settings and errors for us including the lock screen, disabled screen, and Face/Touch ID. However, it will erase all data on this iPad too. So, do a backup on your disabled iPad before you let Find My do its work.

After a backup, let’s start to fix your iPad with Find My app on your iPhone/iPad.

Step 1

Launch the Find My app on your iPhone or iPad. Then, tap on the Devices tab.

Step 2

On the Devices tab, find the name of your disabled iPad and hit its icon. Next, scroll down and tap on the Erase This Device option.

The app might ask you to enter your iCloud password to confirm the erase. Enter it anyway and tap Erase one last more.

Your disabled iPad will be erased in a few minutes and booted into a White Apple screen. Once the erase is done, your iPad is unlocked completely and you can set it up again.

Method 2 to Unlock A Disabled iPad without iTunes & Computer: iCloud.com

If you don’t have another Apple device, don’t worry. As long as the Find My iPad is activated on your iPad, we can unlock your iPad remotely without the help of a computer or iTunes.

Here, we will use iCloud.com to fix your iPad easily. Check this out:

Step 1

Sign in to iCloud Find My with the same iCloud account that’s logged in on the disabled iPad.

Next, the website will ask you to verify the login. However, you can’t do the verification when the iPad screen restricts your access. In this case, click on the Didn’t get a verification code? Option on the login page. Then, choose to send via phone number or email.

Sign In iCloud Verify

Apple will send the 6-digit code to your phone number or email now. Enter the code on the login page to complete the step.

Step 2

Browse and navigate to your iPad on the map. Click on it and choose Erase iPad from the pop-out window. Click Erase to start the unlock.

Note that this Security Lockout feature will come into effect when you’ve entered 7 wrong passcodes on the iPad. You will see that “iPad Unavailable (or Security Lockout) try again in 15 minutes” screen. Also, make sure this iPad is connected to a Wifi network.
