“Help! I need to access some files on my old Android phone but I can’t remember the password! Is there any way to unlock an Android phone without a password?”
This is what my coworker told me when I entered our office the other day and I know exactly how she feels. I just experienced the same thing a couple of months ago with my Motorola phone and it was horrible. Being locked out on our devices is one of the worst things that could happen.
And I know that I’m not the only one who is dealing with this problem. That’s why I searched and tested a bunch of methods and compiled the best ones in this article to help you unlock an Android phone without a password. Check them out!
Method 1: Unlock Android Phone without Password via Factory Reset
The easiest solution for unlocking an Android phone without a password is by Factory Reset. This feature will bring back all settings to default (remove the screen lock as well) and delete all current files and data.
The Factory Reset is commonly accessed through the phone settings, but since the phone is locked, we have to reset it via the Recovery mode. This is usually done by pressing a sequence of buttons (Power and Volume buttons), and each Android device has a different process to do so.
In this article, we will show you how to unlock a Samsung Galaxy via Factory Reset.
Turn off the device then press the Power and Volume down buttons for 7 to 10 seconds.
If the phone vibrates, press and hold the Power, Volume up, and Home buttons altogether.
Release all buttons if the Samsung logo appears. After that, the Recovery mode should show up.
Select the Wipe data/factory reset option via the Volume buttons and the Power button to confirm your selection.
On the next screen, click Yes and the Factory Reset will begin. After that, your phone should be unlocked and back to default.
Tip: After Factory resetting your phone, you might encounter the Google FRP. It is a built-in security feature on Android phones that prevents unwanted access after resetting. In other words, you still won’t be able to access your phone.
To bypass FRP, you will need to enter the Google account credentials linked to the phone. If it doesn’t work try out other methods to bypass Google FRP Lock.

If your phone brand is not on the list, try to visit the brand’s official site and look for the steps to enter Recovery Mode or contact customer support.
Method 2: Unlock Android Phones without a Password via Google Find My Device
Another way to unlock Android phones is by using Google Find My Device. This feature allows users to track and manage their devices remotely via the website. It has an erase option that resets your phone and removes the screen lock.
To use this feature, a Google Account should be linked to your device. Don’t worry, this feature doesn’t need to be set up, as long as you logged in to your account on your Android phone and have an internet connection, you’re good to go.
On another device, access the Find My Device site and log in with your Google account.
Choose the Erase Device option to remove the screen lock.
Caution: This will delete all the files and reset your phone back to default. But you can restore your files using Google Backup (assuming you have backed up the phone).
You will be asked to enter your account credentials for verification. After a few minutes, your phone should be unlocked.
Tip: Use Find My Mobile for Samsung Devices
For Samsung users, there is a better and easier way to unlock Samsung devices. The Find My Mobile has the same function as Google but it has an Unlock option that can automatically open your phone without a password.
Here are the requirements to do so:
- Your Samsung account should be logged in on the phone.
- The Remote Control and Remote Unlock features should be enabled beforehand.
- Your phone should be connected to a WIFI network or mobile data.
If you think your phone has all these requirements, then follow the steps below.
Open the Find My Mobile site and log in with your Samsung account.
Select the Unlock option and it should remove the password on your phone.
You will then be asked to reset the password.
