Method 1: Airdrop Contacts from iPhone to iPhone

In case you just want to share a few contacts to someone, Airdrop should do the trick. It’s a data-sharing feature available on iPhones running on iOS 7 or later. It can be used to transfer your contacts between two iPhones. However, Airdrop cannot transfer contacts in bulk. You have to select each contact and share it individually.

Step 1

Enable Airdrop, Bluetooth, and WIFI on both iPhones. You can find these features in the Control Center by swiping up from the bottom of the screen. Then, select Everyone or Contacts Only.

Step 2

After that, go to the Contacts app on the source iPhone and tap the contact you wish to transfer. Then, select Share Contact and tap on Airdrop.

Step 3

On the target iPhone, an Airdrop prompt should appear on the screen. When it does, just tap Accept. Then, you can repeat the same steps until you send all the contacts needed.

Method 2: Move Contacts from iPhone to iPhone via SIM Card

If some of your contacts have been on your SIM card for years now. Perhaps, you were an Android user before. You can take it out of your iPhone and insert it into the new one, provided that the latter supports that type of SIM card. Then, you can use the import contacts option to transfer them to the target iPhone’s internal storage.

Step 1

Eject the SIM card from the source iPhone. Then, put it into the target iPhone. Go to Settings and look for Contacts afterward.

Import Contacts iPhone

Step 2

In there, look for Import SIM Contacts and then tap on it. The process will start shortly; just wait for it to finish. Then, you can check your Contacts app if they’ve been imported successfully.

There’s a catch, though. SIM cards can only store a maximum of 250 contacts. Not to mention, newly added contacts won’t be saved on the SIM card since iOS doesn’t allow it, which means you won’t be able to transfer all your contacts completely. You can’t also export contacts to the SIM card via iPhone for the same reason.

Method 3: Sync Contacts from iPhone to iPhone via iCloud

If you’re moving to a new iPhone and you’re only transferring your contacts, iCloud could be a great option. It’s a cloud storage service for iPhone users, which can be used to back up, restore, and sync data such as contacts.

Right off the bat, you’d get free 5 GB of storage for your Apple ID. Surely, it’s enough to store your contacts, but if you are transferring other files/data, you may need to spend a few bucks. Not to mention, using iCloud requires a good internet connection.

Step 1

Considering there’s already an active Apple ID on the source iPhone, connect it to WIFI. Then, go to Settings and tap Profile. There, Select iCloud and toggle on the Contacts option. All the contacts will immediately start syncing.

iCloud Contacts

Step 2

Proceed to the target iPhone and log in to the same Apple ID there. Then, repeat the same process by toggling on Contacts in iCloud. A prompt may appear, just tap Merge so you won’t lose the existing contacts on the target iPhone.

After that, you can check the Contacts app and the contacts should be reflected there right away. However, we don’t recommend this method if the target iPhone already has an existing Apple ID that’s synced to apps and other services. Replacing that account with a different one may cause data loss.

Method 4: Transfer Contacts from iPhone to iPhone Using MobileTrans

The previous methods are quite simple yet they have limitations. Airdrop can only send one at a time; exporting contacts to a SIM card doesn’t work on iPhones; and iCloud needs internet and has a 5 GB limit, which be an issue if you’re also transferring other phone data besides contacts. Not to mention, you need an Apple ID. But don’t lose hope! With MobileTrans, you don’t have to deal with all these issues.
