How to Factory Reset iPad Without iCloud Account Password

Last Updated: June 29th, 2023By Categories: Unlock Apple Device

It’s common sense that we need to enter the iCloud password to disable Find My first to factory reset an iPad. Entering the password is a necessary step as that’s what the device prompts us when we want to reset the iPad on the Settings app.

If you turn to iTunes or Finder for help, the Apple assistant app will ask you to turn off the Find My iPad first. However, you need the iCloud password to disable that security feature. This makes it a dead end.

When we’re about to give out this iPad or just buy a used iPad that’s still loaded with the data of the previous owner, a factory reset is the best thing to start everything over. If we forget or don’t have the password to sign out of the Apple ID, things get tough. To that concern, we will teach you how to reset your iPad without the Apple ID and password.

How to Factory Reset iPad Without iCloud Account Password

Method 1: Factory Reset iPad Using Recovery Mode

iTunes can still help us factory reset an iPad even if the Find My iPad is activated on the tablet. We just need some help from the Recovery Mode.

We can force reset the iPad without entering the Apple ID and password when Recovery Mode comes into effect.

Caution:

Since the Apple ID still takes up the iPad and Find My iPad is still functioning, an Activation Lock screen will be set off. Whoever wants to get into the iPad will need to enter the details of the associated Apple ID and password. Otherwise, this lock will exist forever and reject all access.

You may choose to bypass the Activation lock by jailbreaking your iPad though. Or you can check other methods to erase your iPad.

Let’s see how to boot your iPad to Recovery mode for the coming factory reset then.

Power off this iPad first. Then, we need to press some buttons to enable that mode. Power off your tablet first.

  • For iPad that has a Home button: long press both Home and Power buttons
  • For iPad that uses Face ID: long press the Power button

Release the button(s) when you see the iTunes (or Recovery mode) sign on the tablet screen.

Then, connect the iPad to:

  • a Windows computer installed with the latest iTunes;
  • or a Mac equipped with Finder.

iTunes will then launch by itself and ask you to either Restore or Update this iPad. Hit Restore to start the reset.

FAQs

Yes, you may need special software to do so. Or after deleting a file in its folder, immediately open the Recycle Bin and delete the file there too. It will then be deleted from your computer.

The Bin is temporary storage for your deleted files. But there’s a catch, just like what I have mentioned below it only stores your files for a maximum of 30 days.
