Last Updated on December 29, 2020 by Lucas Silva
When you have watched a funny video on YouTube, you might want to share it with all of your friends. And the best platform of sharing it probably will be on Instagram However, when you really about to share a YouTube video on Instagram, you will find that there are several problems during the process.
The most obvious problem will be how to download the YouTube video. So far, YouTube videos can only be watched and do not support downloading. Another problem of posting YouTube videos on Instagram would be the requirements of Instagram to the uploading videos. As you might have already aware, there are different types of Instagram videos you could post and each of them has slightly different requirements.
- Feed videos: no longer than 60 seconds; the maximum frame rate is 30 frames per second (FPS); MP4 format is recommended.
- Story videos: less than 15 seconds; the maximum frame rate is 30 FPS; MP4 format is recommended.
For regular post videos (or the feed videos) and story videos, there are 4 main dimensions you can choose:
- Square: the resolution should be between 600*600 and 1080*1080
- Portrait: the resolution should be between 600*750 and 1080*1350
- Landscape: the resolution should be between 600*315 and 1080*608
- Stories: the resolution should be between 600*1067 and 1080*1920
If you want to repost a long YouTube video on Instagram, then Instagram Live stream video would be your choice.
- Instagram Live stream video: no longer than 60 minutes; vertical video with a ratio of 9:16 or horizontal video with a ratio of 16:9; minimum frame rate is 30 frames FPS; the minimum resolution is 720 pixels.
Therefore, even you have made to download the YouTube video you fancy, it may not meet those requirements. Then how can you post YouTube videos to Instagram? This article will give you the tutorial to teach you step by step.
Share YouTube Videos on Instagram in 3 Steps
By following the three steps below, you will be able to post any YouTube video on Instagram:
Step 1. Download the YouTube video you’d like to share
You may download YouTube videos on different devices, and this tutorial will explain how to do it by using your PC. There are many online YouTube downloaders, and here I will recommend “YouTube Download” (https://youtubedownload.video/) which requires no additional extensions, entirely free and easy to use. What you have to do is just simply copy the URL of the YouTube video you wish to share on Instagram and then paste it in the input box of the website. Then you can generate a download link for the video and save the video on your PC.
Step 2. Edit the video to make it more fun and also meet the posting requirements of Instagram
Either you would like to post the video as a regular one or in Instagram Story, the time limit will be your very first consideration. As the video in the regular post can only be 60 seconds and the time limit of the video for Instagram Story is even shorter (15s). In most of the cases, a YouTube video will be at least several minutes long, and you will only want to post the highlight parts of the video to your Instagram. To do that, filmora will be your best choice.
1. Import the downloaded video file to filmora
After downloaded and opened filmora, you can click on the “+” button to select the YouTube video you have downloaded.
2. Cut the video to meet the video time limit of Instagram
To do that, you can first drag the video you have selected to the timeline below. Then click on the “Scissors” button to cut the video into different segments and delete the unwanted one to make the video shorter. You can skip to step 4 directly if you only wish to shorten the video. However, if you want to add a bit more effects or texts on the video to make it even funnier, you can also do this in filmora.
3. Add effects to the video
To add some effects to the video, you can click on “Effects” to find filters or “Elements” to find motion graphics. Then you could select the effect you want to add and adjust its duration and when to appear on the timeline. What’s more? Filmora also enables you to add texts and audio to your video to make it more fun. You can find all these functions on the menu tab.
4. Export the video
After finishing all the necessary editing, you can export your video to your PC. To do that, you can firstly click on the “Export” button, then choose MP4 format which is recommended or required by Instagram. You could click on “Settings” to make sure all the parameters of the video have met the requirements. For example, if you want to post a story video in square dimension, then you could change the resolution to 720*720 (or any other resolution between 600*600 to 1080*1080). You should also make sure that the frame rate should be maximumly 30 FPS. After that, you could select the folder you want to save the video and export the video.
Step 3. Post the video to your Instagram
Finally, everything is ready for you and the last step you have to do is to post the video on Instagram. If you prefer to upload your video on your PC directly, you could use Instagram;’s mobile site which would be the quickest and easiest way. The mobile version of the Instagram website is now available and you can access it by changing the browser’s user agent. You could also send the video to your mobile phone to post the video. There are many ways to do that. You can airdrop the video if you are using Macbook and iPhone. Or you can send yourself an email with the video as the attachment. Then you can open the email on your phone and download it.
Hope this tutorial helped. Enjoy the powerful editing functions of filmora and happy sharing!
