Method 1: Use A SIM Card from Verizon Wireless

If your Android phone’s plan under Verizon Wireless is not finished yet, you won’t be able to use SIM cards from other carriers. It’s Verizon-locked. So, you can only use SIM cards provided by Verizon.

But unlike other carriers, though, Verizon Wireless is relaxed and straightforward when it comes to unlocking their phones. If you’re under a post-paid plan, your phone will be automatically unlocked 60 days after its activation.

Verizon SIM Card

For prepaid subscribers will have to do it manually after 60 days. Typically, you just need to restart the device then a prompt should appear. There, you just need to enter the code 000000 or 123456. If they don’t work, contact customer support at 1-877-596-7577 to ask for the correct code.

Until then, you have to use Verizon Wireless SIM cards. Otherwise, the prompt “SIM card is not from Verizon Wireless” will continuously pop up.

Method 2: Request Verizon Wireless to Unlock Your Phone (For Military Personnel)

For regular Verizon Wireless subscribers, the policy is 60 days for the phone to get unlocked. But there’s a different rule for military members who constantly get deployed in areas that Verizon Wireless doesn’t reach. If you’re in the military, you need to send a request to unlock your Verizon phone. But the good news is, you don’t need to wait for 60 days.

Military Using Phone

Yes! You can request for carrier unlock right away as long as you have the documents that prove you are from the military and that you are getting deployed before the 60-day period expires.

There are two things you can do:

  • Request unlock by reaching out to Verizon’s Customer Service at 1-877-596-7577
  • Go to one of their stores near you and have your request processed face-to-face.

That’s how simple it is. But please keep in mind that the phone you want to be unlocked must not be involved in any theft, loss, or fraud. Such would void your eligibility to avail of the unlock service.

Method 3: Unlock the Phone Using Third-Party Services

If none of the previous methods work because the phone was only given to you or whatnot, you may try third-party carrier unlock services. There are two options for you.

1. Hire A Smartphone Unlock Technician

A smartphone technician can use the IMEI of the phone to produce a unique code that can remotely unlock the phone. All you need to do is send them the IMEI. You can find it in your phone’s About Phone.

Phone Technician

If remote unlock doesn’t work, you may take your phone to the technician physically. That way, they can perform more advanced ways to unlock it using the tools privy to them. However, you must know that hiring one can be challenging because it’s hard to find a trusted technician and it’s quite expensive.

2. Use DoctorSIM

DoctorSIM is a smartphone unlock service that gets rid of network restrictions placed by carriers like Verizon Wireless. It’s legal and it offers permanent unlock. There’s no expiration at all. And the best part is it’s remote; so, you can use it at home. You just need to follow the simple steps below to finally unlock your phone.

Step 1

On your web browser, visit DoctorSIM’s official webpage. Then, select the device you want to unlock, your current carrier, and your country.

Step 2

Then, submit the required information to complete your checkout and payment. After that, DoctorSIM will send you the full guide on how to unlock your Verizon Wireless phone.

If DoctorSIM happens to fail in unlocking your phone, you will be eligible for a full refund, given that the they’ve exhausted all options.

Method 4: Modify APN Setup to Fix SIM Card Is Not from Verizon Wireless

APN is important when it comes to activating your network. It’s responsible for giving your phone access to the SIM’s mobile data. So, if the problem occurs due to an incorrect APN, you can fix it via your phone Settings. It’s simple and doesn’t really require technical knowledge. Just follow the steps below.

Step 1

Open your phone’s Settings. There, look for Connections or Network & Connectivity. Then, proceed to Mobile Networks.

Verizon Wireless APN Settings

Step 2

There, select Access Point Names and change your APN details. They will depend on what SIM card (carrier) you inserted into your phone. In case you don’t know the APN details for your SIM, kindly contact your provider for assistance.

After that, your phone should no longer show “SIM card is not from Verizon Wireless” and all network restrictions should be lifted.

Method 5: Fix SIM Card Is Not from Verizon Wireless by Restarting Your Phone

Sometimes, Android phones encounter bugs. Such may result in glitches like the “SIM card is not from Verizon Wireless” messaging constantly popping up. While it seems that bugs are hard to deal with, they’re actually not.

In fact, some bugs are pretty minor; you only need a restart. Good thing! Android phones have a Restart option that you can use to refresh the system settings and software. It has a high chance of removing the bugs and fixing known and unknown issues.

Android Restart Option

All you need to do is hold the Power button until options appear on the screen. Then, tap on the Green button or the one with the Restart/Reboot label. After that, just wait for it to turn on and check if the prompt still pops up.

Method 6: Update/Reset Your Verizon Wireless Phone

Well, restarting your phone can only do enough. Oftentimes, it’s not effective, especially if the software problem is more serious than expected. Well, the only way you can fix the issue by yourself is by updating the phone to the latest version or performing a factory reset.

To update your phone:

Step 1

Open Settings and go to the About Phone section. It’s there you can usually find Software Update on Android phones. Tap on it to check if there’s an available update.

About Phone

Step 2

If there’s one, download and install the update. Make sure that your phone is charged to 50% or above before you proceed. That way, there won’t be power issues that may interrupt the update.

In case there’s no available software update, your last resort would be a factory reset. But please keep in mind that this method involves erasing all your phone’s data. If you have important files, we suggest you make a backup first.

To reset your phone:

Step 1

In Settings, look for Systems or General Management. The location of this option may differ depending on your phone’s brand, but the process is the same.

System Settings

Step 2

There, tap on Reset or Factory Reset. Then, select Factory Data Reset in case you’re shown other reset options. After that, just enter your phone’s PIN/pattern/password to confirm your identity and the process will start.

Like updating, we also recommend that your phone is at 50% or above battery power before you do this. When a reset is interrupted, it could permanently damage your phone or brick it.

Moreover, the update and reset methods can only work on a Verizon phone if it’s been unlocked already. Otherwise, they won’t help you at all.
