There’s a thing you must do before you present or sell it – delete everything from the iPhone.

After months or years of usage, there will be dozens of GB of data left on this iPhone. Deleting them one by one manually is so impossible. Phone producers have given us the shortcut to erase all personal data from an iPhone, which is through a factory reset.

On iPhone, after unlocking the device, we can find a Settings app. Amid this app, we will easily find access to a factory reset. However, to wipe out everything on this iPhone, you will need to enter the iCloud password to the current account.

If you have the digits, things get much easier. If you don’t, well, we have workarounds for you to erase your iPhone too. Read on.

How to Delete Everything from iPhone Without Password

Method 1: How to Delete Everything on iPhone With Settings

The easiest method to erase your iPhone is on the Settings app. But you need to fulfill these two:

  • The iPhone is not disabled and you can get in with Face ID or screen passcode;
  • You can sign off the Apple ID: you are the legit owner or you know the digits;

Launch Settings and choose General.

For newer iPhones, tap on Transfer or Reset iPhone. For the old ones, it’s Reset.

Then, choose to Erase All Content and Data, and enter the iCloud password to disable the account. Next, the erase will start and your iPhone will boot into this White Apple screen.

FAQs

It depends on which kind of factory reset you’re talking about. A complete and thorough reset is surely enough to wipe an iPhone or iPad for sale. On the contrary, if an incomplete reset is done, this device is not suitable to give away.

  • Complete Factory Reset: Enter the iCloud password on the Settings app to turn off Apple ID and Find My first;
  • Incomplete Factory Reset: Boot iPhone to Recovery mode and reset it via iTunes or any third-party app.

When an iPhone is reset while the Find My iPhone is not signed off, an Activation lock will appear and block any access. Only the correct Apple ID and password can disable this restriction. So, if you know the password of the associated iCloud account, a factory reset is surely enough to prepare your iPhone for sale.

To soft reset an iPhone/iPad when you encounter bugs like a frozen screen or boot loop, try this:

  • Press and hold the Volume Down and Side buttons at the same time. Don’t release them till you see the White Apple screen.

Yes, you can boot your iPhone or iPad to Recovery mode and connect the Apple device to iTunes. Then, you can factory reset the iPhone/iPad via iTunes.

To enter Recovery mode, you need to power off your device first. Then,

  • for iPhone: press and release Volume Up, press and release Volume Down, long press the Side button;
  • for iPad: long press the Side button.

Release the button when the Recovery mode screen appears. Connect it to iTunes now.

Then, you can hit the Restore button on iTunes to factory reset your iPhone without touching the screen.

There’re posts teaching iPhone/iPad users to bypass the Activation Lock by changing the DNS settings.

Unfortunately, that doesn’t work in most cases. And we haven’t found any solid proof or case for this method. But of course, as a free method, it is worth a try.

Nope, the Activation lock on iPhone or iPad will not be removed when you jailbreak it. Jailbreak itself is incapable of doing so. You need to apply extra tools to remove the lock.

A factory reset for iPhone varies based on the tool that we use to reset the iPhone.

If we do a factory reset to iPhone with Find My iPhone’s Erase This iPhone feature, yes, the factory reset will be disabled. This is the same when we reset iPhones with the Settings app.

But if we connect the iPhone to iTunes with Recovery mode and do a factory reset there, the Activation lock will be turned on.

I‘m afraid not. You need either the password of the target Apple account or the solid proof of purchase like a receipt. Otherwise, you can’t prove yourself as the legit owner of this iPhone. When this is a secondhand iPhone, ask the previous owner for the exact proof of evidence.
