How to Unlock My iPad When I Forgot iPad Passcode

Last Updated: October 20th, 2023By Categories: Unlock Apple Device

For iPad owners, the screen passcode is like an old friend that hasn’t met in a while. With the help of new friends – Touch and Face ID, we tend to unlock the iPad with our fingers or face. The cases of entering the iPad passcode become rare. Gradually, we will forget the details about this old friend.

However, the iPad passcode is essential. iPad will ask every owner to unlock the device with a passcode every few days. Also, when Face or Touch ID fails to bring you into the iPad, it will prompt you to enter it too.

It will be a disaster if you forget the iPad passcode as you can’t access the tablet and have fun with it. Worse still, if you insist on unlocking the iPad and enter several wrong passcodes, a disabled status will be activated on this iOS tablet.

Neither a locked nor a disabled iPad is what we want. To gain access to the iPad again, we need to find practical methods to unlock the iPad. Luckily, Apple Inc. provides several official ways for this situation. Also, there’re third-party tools that can unlock the iPad for us.

How to Unlock My iPad When I Forgot iPad Passcode

A Warm Tip When You Forget The Passcode on iPad

To whom it may concern, you can’t bypass the screen lock on an iPad when you forget the passcode. The only thing we can do is erase the whole iPad. This means we need to do a factory reset to remove the screen lock as well as all data.

To protect privacy from thefts and hackers, Apple has installed multiple protection methods for iPadOS, one of which is the unbreakable screen lock. There’re two ways of entering a locked iPad:

  1. Either you unlock it with the correct passcode, Face ID, or Touch ID
  2. or factory reset the device.

iPad Enter Passcode

When the passcode is absent and facial/fingerprint recognition is not working, a factory reset is the only way out.

Don’t worry about data loss yet. There’s this auto-backup feature on iPad named iCloud. Once activated, it will sync your data from your locked iPad to the cloud storage every time you charge, lock, and connect it to Wifi.

When your data is safe, a factory reset is nothing. You can restore your data anyhow. Without further ado, let’s see how to unlock your iPad when you forget the iPad.

Method 1: Unlock A Locked iPad with iPhone When You Forget Passcode

If you have another Apple device like an iPhone or Mac, erasing a locked iPad becomes a cinch.

Starting from iOS and iPadOS 13, Apple has installed an app named Find My. It’s designed to let Apple customers track and locate their own iDevices in case of theft and missing. Also, to protect the privacy of users, Apple has planted a remote erase feature on this app.

Apple Find My App

So, iPad and iPhone users can reset their devices without touching the device. And surely, we can use it to process our locked iPad. However, to use this app, you need to make sure:

  • The same iCloud account should have been signed in on your locked iPad and the device where Find My is in.
  • The Find My iPad option is enabled on your iPad.

When you have such an Apple device, we can start to unlock your iPad right away.

Step 1

On your iPhone, iPad, or Mac, launch the Find My app. And tap on the Devices tab.

Step 2

On the Devices list, find your locked iPad and tap on it. Scroll down and find “Erase This Device”.

Step 3

Hit it and the app will ask for your iCloud password to confirm the decision. Enter the right numbers and tap Erase again.

The app will start to erase your iPad now. Check your iPad, you will see the White Apple screen which suggests the reset process. Wait for a few minutes and you can restart the iPad when the reset is done. No more screen lock will block your access now.

Method 2: Unlock Your iPad with iCloud.com When You Forget Passcode

Step 1

On any browser, visit iCloud.com, the web access to Find My iPad. Sign in with your iCloud account and password.

Tip:

If this is the first time you sign in to your iCloud account on this browser, you will be asked to verify the login. You may tap on the Didn’t Get A Code option on the verification window and ask to send via phone number to get the code. Then, complete the login.

Step 2

After login, select your locked iPad from the Apple map. Choose Erase iPad from the floating panel. A window pops out and asks for your confirmation, click Erase to finish.
