Part 3: How to Fix “Blu-ray Needs a Library for AACS” in VLC
To fix this AACS library issue and make VLC eligible to play Blu-ray, we need to manually add the AACS library to the software.
For those who have already installed the keydb.cfg file and libaacs.dll to VLC, check on the steps to update VLC to the latest.
How to Manually Add AACS Libray to VLC
Go to VLC Blu-ray, you may see an error page saying “Your connection is not private”.
Click on the Advanced button to enlarge the error explanation tab and click Proceed to vlc-bluray.whoknowsmy.name (unsafe).
You need to download two files:
- libaacs.dll – this is the AACS decoding library (For Mac, it’s libaccs.dylib)
- keydb.cfg – this is the decryption key to AACS and it will be used by libaacs.dll.
Click on “Fetch the up-to-date file from FindVUK online database and unzip it” to download keydb.cfg – Language English . Or pick any version based on your language background.
As for the libaacs.dll, locate the download links below AACS AYNAMIC LIBRARY. Download the right one according to your computer OS.
Since I am in Windows 10 64-bit, I will download the VLC 64-bit Windows version.
Both files are ready, we need to add them to the right locations so VLC can use them to play a Blu-ray.
Press Win + R to launch the Run application and enter %appdata%. Then click OK to open the directory of AppData. Open the Roaming folder. There, create a new folder named “AACS” and copy the keybd.cfg into the AACS folder.
Put libaacs.dll in your VLC installation directory (right-click on the desktop icon of VLC and choose Open File Location).
For Mac: (Create the folders of “aacs” & director”)
- Put keydb.cfg in ~/Library/Preferences/aacs.
- Put libaccs.dylib in /usr/local/lib/directory.
Restart VLC and open the Blu-ray disc once again.
Now you probably have fixed the “This Blu-ray Disc needs a library for AACS decoding, and your system does not have it” error. Make sure that you have followed the fixed guide carefully. If it doesn’t work. Please check the locations of the two AACS files. Or move to update your VLC software.

Launch VLC on the computer and locate the Help option at the top menu bar. Hit Check for Update from the drop-down list.
