FYI: What Causes Airdrop No People Found on iPhone

Airdrop uses Bluetooth and WIFI to transfer files. Yes! You’ve read that right. However, it’s the WIFI that transfers the data, but it’s Bluetooth that works as a radar to detect People (nearby iPhone/iPad/Mac).

If your iPhone can’t detect other iPhones after having enabled Airdrop on both devices, the first culprit is visibility. The receiving iPhone might be set to Receiving Off. Another case is there might be a glitch with either phone’s Bluetooth. If the problem is the latter, it could be a software glitch or worse– the phone’s Bluetooth hardware is broken.

But you don’t have to worry yet unless you’ve tried all the possible fixes below.

Method 1: Change Visibility to Fix Airdrop No People Found

This one is pretty simple. Sometimes, we forget to switch Airdrop visibility when transferring files. If the receiving iPhone’s Airdrop is set to Receiving Off, it becomes invisible to other iPhones. Well, there are two options you can go about: If the receiving iPhone is not a contact of the source iPhone, set it to Everyone, and if it is, set it to Contacts Only.

AirDrop Control Center

You can access Airdrop visibility settings on the Control Center by tapping on the Network section (WIFI, Bluetooth, etc.). There, just tap Airdrop and you can reset the visibility.

Method 2: Restart Your iPhone to Fix Airdrop No People Found

If the previous method didn’t work, it is likely that the cause is a software glitch. Fortunately, iPhones have a Reboot option to refresh system settings and get rid of minor glitches all at once. Most of the time, restarting the phone fixes Airdrop No People Found. Here’s how it’s done.

Step 1

Hold the Volume Up and the Power buttons at the same time. When options appear on the screen, let go of them. Then, Slide to Power Off.

Step 2

Wait for at least 15 to 30 seconds. Then, press and hold the Power key to turn on the iPhone. It should boot up immediately. That’s it, it completely rebooted. Try Airdrop again and see if your iPhone can see nearby devices.

Method 3: Update Your iPhone to Fix Airdrop No People Found

On rare occasions, the problem originates from a previous iOS update that’s full of bugs. It may affect the iPhone’s Airdrop feature. The good thing is Apple always releases updates and bug fixes whenever there’s a problem with the iOS. So, if you think it’s the cause, updating the latest iOS version could probably fix the issue.

Just make sure your phone’s battery is juiced up 50% and up to avoid interrupting the process due to power issues.

Step 1

Open Settings on your iPhone, tap General, and then Software Update. There, if the iOS update is ready, just hit Install Now.

Step 2

If the update package hasn’t been downloaded yet. Tap Download and Install and enter your passcode for confirmation. Wait for it to finish and then hit Install Now.

After that, you just need to wait for a few minutes until your iPhone is done loading and updating the new iOS version. Then, you can check if Airdrop finds People/other devices again. However, if there’s no available update, we suggest backing up your iPhone data and resetting your iPhone.

Note:

If the methods above don’t work, it’s highly likely that the cause of the problem is hardware. We recommend taking your phone to a certified iPhone repair center for proper solutions.
